How to Groom a Puggle

The puggle is a hybrid of two long-standing breeds, the pug and the beagle. The exact ratio of beagle to pug in each puggle varies by breeder. Some puggle litters are indeed the offspring of a purebred pug mother and a purebred beagle father, or vice versa, but other puggles are multi-generational hybrids, meaning each parent contained both pug and beagle genes. Regardless of the exact heritage, grooming your puggle is not a challenging chore, but one you should perform regularly.

Bathe your puggle at least twice a year, or more if it becomes especially dirty. Being of beagle and pug descent, shedding is heaviest during spring. Bathing it during this time loosens its shedding hairs before they end up on your furniture.

Brush your puggle twice a week to reduce shedding and distribute its natural oils for a shiny coat. Move your stainless steel brush over your puggle's coat in the same direction of hair growth. A stainless steel brush helps remove dead skin cells and loose hair, and feels wonderful to your pup.

Clean the folds of skin on your puggle's face twice a week. A puggle's wrinkles collect moisture, food and bacteria, resulting in an unpleasant odor. Dip a cotton swab in warm water. Slide the cotton swab through each fold. Hold the fold open and pat dry with a clean towel to prevent moisture buildup.

Clean your puggle's ears at least once a month. A puggle's flap-down ears trap moisture and bacteria inside, causing painful ear infections. Apply a few drops of ear cleanser to a cotton pad. Flip its ears open and run the cotton pad over the pink skin inside. Leave the ear flipped open for a few minutes to dry. Never insert anything past the visible part of its ear.
