Instructions
Feed your dog food that will enhance its coat. This includes dog food that contains flax oils, which help keep its coat healthy and shiny. If you cannot find a brand with oils already in the food, consider adding pure flax oil as a supplement.
Visit your veterinarian regularly for a full checkup, including a stool analysis, to ensure that your dog is free of internal and external parasites that can cause itching, hair loss and skin damage.
Spritz your dog's coat with a little water to prevent split ends and brush every day for between 5 and 10 minutes. This activates the skin to produce and distribute healthy oils along the shaft of the hair.
Give your dog a partial bath once a week after its grooming session by using a warm, damp washcloth with a mild soap that has been formulated specifically for dogs. Spot clean small areas of your dog's coat before rinsing with a clean wet washcloth.
Brush out your Pomeranian's coat thoroughly and use a slicker brush or round-ended scissors to tease out and remove mats and knots when preparing for a full bath.
Bathe your dog in your bathtub or a collapsible dog bath by spraying with a hand-held shower nozzle or sponging with warm water from a bucket.
Apply shampoo. Lather and rinse or follow the instructions printed on your chosen product.
Towel-dry your Pomeranian's coat, and then divide the coat into segments using a comb.
Blow-dry the dog's hair using a hair-dryer on a cool setting. Dry each section of the coat carefully before proceeding to the next.
