White Pomeranian Grooming

White Pomeranians are quite rare, as it is not easy to breed one. If a breeder breeds too many white Pomeranians, there are chances of the resultant dogs reverting to the original color of their ancestors, as well as being bigger in size. So, if you do have a white Pomeranian, you should spend some time grooming it, or else food stains, tear stains as well and everyday dirt and debris will discolor its white coat. Regular grooming will ensure that the coat is always fluffy and free of mats.
  1. Weekly Grooming

    • Set a weekly schedule to groom your white Pomeranian. Brush the coat with a wide-toothed comb to remove knots and prevent formation of mats. Because the Pomeranian has a double coat, using a slicker brush to brush the undercoat is necessary to prevent mats from forming. Pay special attention to areas such as behind the ears, under the armpits, hind region and the groin region, which are prone to mats if not combed regularly.

    Nail Clipping

    • Clip nails every two to three months using a dog nail clipper. This will prevent ingrown nails. Do not clip the nails too short, as it will result in bleeding. Keep an eye out for the vein that is present in the nail; usually, this vein is visible through the nail. Cut the nail just before the vein. If bleeding occurs, use some silver nitrate solution to stem it.

    Fur Trimming

    • Trim hair around the ears, feet and anal region. This will give your dog a neat and tidy look. Under no circumstances should you shave your white Pomeranian during summer. The coat helps your dog stay cool, just as it works as insulation during winters. Instead, give your dog lots of water to drink and reduce its exercise to ward off the heat in summer.

    Bathing

    • Use a hypoallergenic dog shampoo for your white Pomeranian. This will prevent the skin and fur from drying out. Rinse the shampoo off thoroughly before drying the dog. Use a warm blow dryer to dry the thick fur. Make sure that the coat is completely dry, especially the undercoat, as moist fur provides an ideal environment for bacteria and fungi growth. After drying the coat completely, use a slicker brush to remove dead hair, followed by combing with a wide-toothed comb to fluff out the hair.

    Teeth Cleaning

    • Use a toothpaste especially formulated for dogs to clean your white Pomeranian's teeth. Use a finger brush to brush the teeth to remove plaque and food particles stuck between teeth. This will keep the dog's breath smelling fresh and clean. Ask your vet to suggest a toothpaste if you are unsure of what brand to buy.

    Ear and Eye Cleaning

    • Use a dog ear cleaning solution to clean the ears. Dab some of the solution onto a cotton ball and wipe the inside of the ears. Take a wet cloth and wipe around and under the eyes to remove tear stains and matter.
