How to Groom a Yorkie-Poo at Home

One reason that people love owning Yorkie-poos is because, unlike other dogs, they do not shed their hair, thus preserving furniture and reducing allergies. However, the luxurious hair that makes these dogs desirable also creates additional work for their owners. Yorkie-poo hair requires regular and ongoing maintenance. Without proper grooming the hair will knot and will have to be sheared from the dog. It isn̵7;t necessary to pay a professional groomer to maintain the hair of a Yorkie-poo, however; grooming can be done at home at little to no cost.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the dog in the sink and wet its hair with water.

    • 2

Place a shampoo that is specifically formulated for yorkies or poodles onto the hair. Rub the palms of the hand over the Yorkie-poo to make sure that all of its hair is cleaned. Be careful not to get shampoo in the dog̵7;s eyes.

    • 3

Pour warm water on the Yorkie-poo̵7;s fur or use a faucet spray attachment to rinse the shampoo from the dog. Do not allow water to get into the dog's nostrils. Shampoo the dog again and rinse the shampoo from the dog̵7;s hair.

    • 4

Wrap the dog in a towel and use a blow-dryer to dry the dog̵7;s fur.

    • 5

Spray a hair detangler product on the dog's fur to help remove small tangles.

    • 6

Comb the Yorkie-poo̵7;s fur with a large-toothed comb. Do not pull the comb through the dog̵7;s hair quickly to avoid hurting the dog while combing through its tangles. Use scissors to remove any knots in the dog̵7;s hair.

    • 7

Cut the dog's hair using clippers or grooming scissors. If you are cutting the dog̵7;s hair to a short, easier to maintain, length, use clippers. Use scissors to cut the dog̵7;s hair if the hair will be kept at a longer length. Also use scissors to cut the long hairs that have strayed into the dog's eyes and the area underneath the tail.

    • 8

Comb the hair to remove any loose hairs from the coat.

    • 9

Cut the dog̵7;s nails using safety nail clippers. Do not cut too close to the nail quick; this may cause bleeding. If the dog's nails are very short, use a pet nail file to cut them. Rub the file in only one direction and stop to observe the length frequently to avoid filing the nail too short.

    • 10

Brush the dog̵7;s teeth with specially formulated dog toothpaste. Brush the front teeth and the back teeth on the inside and the outside.
