Instructions
Place the husky on a grooming table. If you do not have one, and the dog is not used to grooming, use a collar and leash to restrain the dog until it is used to being combed. A helper might be needed at first to distract the dog and hold it in place.
Use the shedding blade to comb out large amounts of loose fur all over the dog's body. Make sure to get down to the husky's insulating undercoat, especially during the season when the dog is "blowing," or shedding, this insulating underlayer. Males do this once a year, and females blow their coats in the spring and fall. However, it can happen any time of the year when there is an major temperature change.
Use a coat rake to start at the dog's neck ruff and comb against the lay of the fur. While you are doing this, use your fingers to gently pull small clumps of loose fur out just below the coat rake. Continue brushing toward the back of the husky.
Spray the dog with a bottle of water mixed with hair conditioner as you brush it. This helps detangle the fur while you are combing it. The water and conditioner mix will also prevent the hair from breaking.
Comb the dog's head, chin and tail areas with a metal-toothed comb. The fur is thinner in these areas, and you want to be sure not to hurt the skin with the rake's metal teeth.
Brush the coat back in the direction it normally lays. Use a soft finishing grooming mitt to smooth the fur down and add some shine to the coat.
