How to Make a Groomer's Loop

A groomer's loop or groomers noose is a tool used to restrain a dog during grooming. It is especially important to keep the dog from falling or jumping off the table while grooming. Groomers' loops are not particularly expensive, but if you only need to use one infrequently, you may prefer to make your own rather than buying a special loop for grooming. You can turn an old leash with a loop at one end into a groomer's loop in just a few steps.

Instructions

Place the end of the leash with the clip hook through the loop at the other end of the collar and pull it part way through. This creates a larger loop.

    • 2

Slide the larger loop over the dog's head and pull it until it is snug, but not tight. Tightening the loop too much could injure the dog, but tightening it too loose could allow the dog to back out of the loop.

Squeeze the binder clip to open it and place it over the connection point of the large loop so that it holds both parts of the leash in place. This keeps the dog from backing out of the loop.

Connect the clip hook at the end of the leash to the groomer's arm and adjust the arm so that there is a small amount of slack, but not so much that the dog can fall off of the table.
