Instructions
Trim your dog's nails before bathing. Clip off only the very tip of the nail. There is a vein that runs down the length of the nail. This will bleed if the nail is clipped too short, and your Yorkiepoo will never forget the pain. If you're hesitant about clipping the nail, ask your veterinarian to show you the proper way to clip nails.
Brush your Yorkiepoo's coat before bathing. This separates the hair and will help relax your dog. Begin near the head and work your way down the coat. If you encounter a tangle, hold the hair away from the dog to prevent pulling. Gently work the tangle out with short gentle strokes of the brush.
Trim the hair around your Yorkiepoo's ears carefully. Place your fingers over the skin to prevent accidentally nicking it. Move to the dog's feet, trimming around the top outline of each foot. Lift each foot and trim any excess hair from the foot pad. Work slowly, being careful not to pinch the skin. To finish trimming, roll your dog over and rub its belly to relax it. Using your hand to guard against accidentally poking your dog with the scissors, trim excess hair away from genital area.
Place your Yorkiepoo in the tub or sink in a warm room, away from drafts. Wet its coat thoroughly with warm water. Place a small amount of shampoo on the dog's back. Use your fingers to work the shampoo into the hair, adding more water as needed to work up a lather. Be careful not to get water in the eyes, ears or mouth. Starting at the head, and working down the body, rinse the dog. Check to make sure all the soap is rinsed from the hair. Place your dog on a towel and gently pat dry.
Soak a cotton ball with ear cleaning solution and gently wipe the inside of your Yorkiepoo's ears to clean out any debris that may have accumulated. Only wipe the inside edge of the ear. Do not push the cotton ball into the ear canal.
