Instructions
Cut a piece of fabric 3-by-14 inches long. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise and cut the ends into a triangle shape, so that when unfolded both ends are triangular for the main tie piece. Repeat with the interfacing. Use the remaining fabric to cut a piece that is 3-inches wide by 3 1/4-inches long for the back piece. Cut an additional piece that is 2 3/4-inches wide by 2 1/4-inches long for the tie wrap piece.
Place the interfacing on the wrong side of the tie piece of fabric and iron it in place. Smooth a hot iron over the interfacing until it adheres completely to the fabric.
Place the back piece onto the tie piece right sides together. Center the back piece so that it fits exactly in the middle of the tie piece with no edges overhanging. Sew the pieces together using your normal sewing machine stitch settings and 1/4-inch seam allowance. This means that you are sewing 1/4-inch of an edge from the edges of the two pieces.
Turn the pieces so the right sides are facing out. Iron the center so that it lays flat. Fold the pointed ends of the tie together so that the right sides of the fabric are touching. Use a 3/8- inch seam allowance to sew the pieces together, starting at the tip of the triangle. Stop sewing directly below the area where the back piece and tie piece were previously sewn together. Repeat from the tip of the point to the other side where the back piece and tie piece were sewn together already. Turn the tie right side out. Iron until the piece lays flat.
Fold the tie wrap piece so that the longer ends are together wrong side out. Sew the long end closed with a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Open the seam and iron the seam so that it lays flat. Turn the piece right side out. Fold the tie piece so that the raw edges touch and the wrong side is facing you, which is the side with the seams showing. Stitch the raw edges together using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Turn the tie wrap piece right side out.
Squeeze the end of the tie piece together, without the point, and slide the tie wrap piece down over it so that there is room above for your dog's collar. Iron the bottom of the tie with the point. Slide your dog's collar into the open section at the neck of the tie. Place on your dog.
