Traditional Pom Cut
-
The pom cut is traditional to Pomeranians. It leaves the hair naturally long around the dog's head and neck while the coat is cut short over the rest of the body. Tim the ear hair into a smooth arch. Leave a patch of long hair that forms a "poof" on each of the dog's ankles and at the end of its tail. This cut is traditional but also practical: It keeps the animal cool over most of its body but warm around the head.
The Lion Cut
-
To turn your Pomeranian into a tiny lion, you can add a few minor changes to the traditional cut. Instead of leaving the hair short over the majority of the dog's body, shave it all the way down to the skin. Leave the hair as long as possible around the neck to form a mane and tease it out to make it even larger. Shave the hair completely from the legs, but leave a "poof" at the end of the tail.
The Furry Friend
-
The most basic, least flashy style for a Pomeranian is just like any other dog -- a simple grooming. When the dog's hair starts getting too long or starts matting and tangling, simply cut off an inch or two of hair. This will leave a longer-haired but uniform look over the whole dog that will keep it warm but not let it overheat.
The Pomesaraus
-
For a guaranteed head-turner, you can transform your dog into a mini dinosaur. First, shave the hair around the face but leave a stripe of hair running from the nose up to the top of the head. Shave the legs and sides of the dog, but leave a wide stripe of hair down the back like a stegosaurus. You can even shape diamonds into the back stripe to complete the look.
