Instructions
Bathe your dog when it gets dirty or smells bad with shampoo that is specially made for dogs. Be sure to rinse the dog completely because leaving shampoo in its fur can cause skin problems. After you are finished bathing the dog, dry it thoroughly with clean towels. You can also use a blow-dryer on a low setting, but that can scare some dogs. Unless the dog is dirty, it shouldn't need a bath more than once a month or so. If your dog is smelly more frequently, you likely need to see your veterinarian to investigate any underlying causes.
Clean your beagle's ears regularly. Beagles have long, drooping ears that can create a warm, wet place for bacteria to grow. Lift your beagle's ear and sniff inside the canal. If the ear smells fine, it is likely clean. If it smells bad, it likely has bacteria growing inside it. Purchase dog ear cleaner and wipe out the inside of your beagle's ear and the top portion of the canal to remove the bacteria. Do this as often as recommended on the bottle of cleaner you purchase until the smell stops coming back.
Brushing your dog's teeth daily will get rid of its bad breath. Purchase toothpaste that is specially made for dogs and a canine toothbrush. Doing this daily will make sure that your beagle becomes used to the process and will not fight you.
Check your beagle's eyes to see if they are tearing and causing smelly wet spots beneath them. Use pet wet wipes to clean the area daily to remove the tear stains and the smell. You can also use a clean, wet cloth.
Take your dog to your veterinarian if cleaning it at home does not help with the bad smell. Your beagle could have a serious bacterial ear infection or a skin allergy that needs to be professionally treated.
