Hairstyle Ideas for Male Yorkies

Your male Yorkshire terrier does not need to look like a female with a pretty pink bow adorning his top-knot ponytail. There are enough gender-specific Yorkie cuts that boy Yorkies can always be clipped and styled to look like males. The puppy cut and the Schnauzer cut are popular for males. So are the Chinese crested cut and the Westie. You can even be creative and come up with a few designer cuts of your own.
  1. The Westie Cut

    • The Yorkie with a Westie cut has all of his hair trimmed to the same length all over, with the face left long but clipped to make it look round. You can even give your Yorkie a complete shave and leave the facial hair at chin length. Yorkies are easier to clip than Westies because they only have one layer of hair. The Westie cut is a good summer cut for a rambunctious male Yorkie, leaving him cooler and more comfortable when romping outside in the summer heat.

    Puppy Cut

    • The puppy cut is similar to the Westie cut, except that the hair is cut to the same length all over and is never completely shaved. You may choose to do this cut at home because, as long as your Yorkie will hold still, this is a relatively easy cut to do on your own. When you are done, tie a small red or green paisley-print bandanna around your male Yorkie. You won't have to worry about anyone mistaking him for a female.

    Schnauzer Cut

    • The Schnauzer cut is very masculine looking. All of the hair is shaved close to the skin except for long tufts above the eyes. The bridge of the nose and space between the tufted eyebrows are closely shaved. The ear fringe is clipped close to the skin, and the tail is shaved. The sides of the muzzle are left long, and the chin is trimmed to resemble a short beard. The male Yorkie with the schnauzer cut looks stately, regal and manly.

    Chinese Crested Cut

    • A male Yorkie with a Chinese-crested cut has a shaved body and long hair on the legs and tail. The head is trimmed but not short. The hair on the forehead is rubber banded. Hair on the ears and jowls is long but trimmed, and the beard is cut straight to approximately one inch below the chin. You can tie a bit of raffia around the rubber-banded hair to dress up this haircut but still leave your male Yorkie looking like a boy.
