- Comb
- Stripper knife
- Thinning shears
Instructions
Bathe your dog and towel dry him. Spray his coat with a spray conditioner, which you can purchase at your local pet store or online.
Brush every area of the dog using a soft slicker brush or a pin brush, then go over the hairs with a comb.
Position the stripper knife in your hand so the longer-bladed side of the knife is facing the dog's hair.
Strip the hair on the back of the long-haired dachshund. Position the stripper knife close to the hairs and then stroke the hair with the knife using long strokes. Use the knife on the back and front of the dog's torso, on the front of his legs and tail. Also, strip the hairs around the dog's neck.
Clean up the front of the dog's neck using thinning shears. Hold the dog's mouth upward to trim. Position the thinning shears in the same direction that the hairs are growing. Trim from the front of the neck where the dog's chest bone is located and, then, around his neck. Do the same for the back of the neck while holding the dog's mouth. Trim the hairs around his neck until you are satisfied with the hair's length.
Smooth the hairs on the long-haired dachshund's ears using the stripper knife. Strip the ears lightly to remove hair from the top of the ears. Then, reduce the hairs under the dog's ears using the stripper knife.
Cut down the hairs on the back of the dog's legs. Position the dog in a comfortable position to lift each of his legs. Trim down the hairs using a straight cut in the direction of hair growth using the thinning shears.
Trim the hairs on the front of the dog's feet. The hairs on the feet are very short, so brush the hairs first using a soft slicker brush, then use the thinning shears to carefully trim down the hairs.
