Instructions
Brush your miniature dachshund to help it relax. Your dog is more likely to allow you to handle its ears if it's calm. If your dog is not cooperative, ask someone to assist you and hold the dog down while you clean the ears.
Lift the ear flaps. Long-haired mini dachshunds grow hair in their ears and this can facilitate the accumulation of dirt, bacteria, fungi or parasites. Remove the hair from the ears. Spread ear powder and pull out the hairs with your fingers or a pair of tweezers, following the direction of the grain. Alternatively, clip the hair short with a straight-edged scissors, ensuring you don't injure the dog's ears while doing so.
Hold the dog's ear flap raised with one hand and with the other, insert ear cleaning solution in the dog's ears using an ear dropper or a syringe. Massage the base of the ears for 30 seconds. Your dog will probably shake its head, which helps getting the solution deep into the ear canal. The solution will also dissolve the ear wax. Wipe off the excess of cleaning solution and wax with cotton balls or a towel.
Reward your miniature dachshund with a treat, so that it associates the not-so-pleasant ear grooming with a pleasant experience.
