Instructions

Brush the dog thoroughly with a pin brush. Start at the front and work your way toward the back end. Repeat the process with a comb to remove small mats that may have passed through the brushing.

    • 2

Hold the miniature schnauzer's tail away from the dog's body. With a blade, clip the hair around the tail completely. Move in the direction the hair grows. Some pet owners prefer their dog's tail to have a slight fringe. In that case, clip the hair on the top and sides of the tail with the clippers. Leave the hair its natural length on the underside of the tail.

Face the dog's back end. Hold the tail up to keep it out of the way. Place the clippers on the left outer edge of the dog's rear and clip inward, toward the center of the dog's back end. Stop when you reach the center line, directly under the tail. Repeat this process, clipping the right outer edge of the dog's rear end toward the middle.

Clip the hair on the miniature schnauzer's underside. To keep the dog clean, clip the hair from the genitals up to the middle of the stomach. Then, clip the hair on the inner thighs. Use the scissors to blend the clipped hair into the longer hair.
