Preparation
-
When it is time to give your Pomeranian a haircut, the first thing you will need to do is bathe your furry friend. Choosing a dog shampoo with extra conditioning could help with the brush out. Once the bathing is finished, you can use a thick bath towel to dry off any excess water. Taking a small pet brush designed for thick fur, brush your Pomeranian's coat upwards beginning at the head area. Make sure to have adequate grooming scissors, preferably a pair with teeth on both sides.
Face And Neck
-
You can start your dog's haircut by beginning in the neck and face area. Use your thumb and forefinger to determine the end of your dog's ear, then trim excess hair off. Next, you should pay attention to the hair behind the dog's ears, since this area is sometimes susceptible to matting or knotting. Around your Pomeranian's neck, begin cutting in a circular motion, one-half inch down, which will help keep the dog's fluffy appearance.
Body
-
As you continue trimming your Pomeranian's coat, make sure to continue throughout the body with the same circular cutting motion. For the pet's underbelly, brush the coat forward and cut using an angle, guiding the scissors toward your dog's hind knee area. Since the Pomeranian's tail is one of its more popular features, when trimming, take the hair on the tail and twist several times. Cut off only a small amount such as a half-inch, making sure you are not close to the end of the dog's tail.
Tips
-
Once you have trimmed the face, neck and body area, next address the dog's legs and foot pads. For most dog owners, the best way to trim your Pomeranian's feet is to turn the pet inside down, holding him in your lap. Since Pomeranians can be excitable dogs, take extra time when trimming your pet, making sure to talk to him and pet throughout the procedure. This can help keep the stress level down, as well as keep him from moving while you are grooming.

Haircut on a Miniature Pomeranian
Pomeranian dogs often look like little balls of fluff. This toy breed, sometimes referred to as a miniature Pomeranian, tops out between three and seven pounds. The double layer of hair means pet owners usually need to take additional steps in grooming or providing a haircut for the petite animal.
