How to Control Yorkie Beards

The Yorkie, or Yorkshire Terrier, is a breed of dog admired for its affable disposition and small size. The dogs tend to be scruffy and after a while may develop "beards" as the hair under their chin grows unchecked. Some simple cutting and grooming will keep your Yorkie looking trimmed and cared for.
  1. Brushing

    • Brush the dog's hair and beard before cleaning to get rid of knots and twists and prepare it for washing and grooming.

    Bathing

    • Give your Yorkie a bath, including the beard, using dog shampoo. Towel off the dog until it's dry.

    Preparation

    • Place your dog on a flat, steady surface and get it to sit still while you groom it. Use a leash or other restraint as needed.

    Trimming

    • Use dog clippers to trim the beard to the desired length, or cut it off entirely, depending on your preference.
