How to Cut a Miniature Schnauzer's Whiskers

Miniature schnauzers are the smallest of the schnauzer breed. These dogs have a double coat that helps repel rain and dirt. This was important long ago when the dog's primary job was to crawl into holes and hunt small rodents on farms. Today, the American Kennel Club ranks miniature schnauzers as the most popular breed of schnauzer. Owners take great care keeping the little dogs groomed and clipped. Much of the dog's distinctive look comes from the shape of its head and whiskers.

Instructions

    • 1

Comb out the fur on the dog's head. Remove any tangles or mats.

    • 2

Clip the fur on top of the skull from the eyebrows back. Hold the ear out of the way, and trim from below the ear to the neck behind the beard. Then hold the beard and whiskers out of the way, and shave the dog's neck.

    • 3

Comb the eyebrows forward. Trim each eyebrow diagonally starting at the outer corner. The eyebrows should be short on the outside and about half the length of the muzzle in the center.

    • 4

Part the whiskers on the top center of the muzzle. Comb each section of whiskers.

    • 5

Trim the bottom of the whiskers with the blunt tipped scissors. Keep the scissors parallel to the head to give it a squared and boxy look.

    • 6

Trim any stray hairs from the beard, but leave it as natural as possible.
