How to Brush a Goldendoodle

Goldendoodles are an emerging breed of dog that are the combination of standard poodles and golden retrievers. Depending on the cross, the dogs can have a wiry, poodle style haircoat or a more "wavy" appearance. Almost all have a silky undercoat and the potential for long hair growth. Goldendoodles need frequent brushing and grooming to avoid mats and skin issues that result from excess hair and poor coat management.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin brushing with a slicker brush, working in small sections against hair growth. This will loosen any undercoat and pull debris from the hair. Penetrate all the way through the haircoat and note any mats or tangles.

    • 2

Utilize the wide-toothed comb to comb the Goldendoodle in the direction of hair growth. This will pull out any hair loosened with the slicker brush. Begin to untangle any mats using the wide-toothed comb.

    • 3

Finish brushing with a fine-toothed comb. Smooth the Goldendoodle's haircoat in the direction of hair growth from head to tail. Work out any remaining small mats and note any that may need the attention of clippers or a professional groomer.
