Instructions

    • 1

Wash and groom your poodle. Comb any matted fur and complete all shaping, shaving and trimming.

    • 2

Test the homemade dye. Apply a small amount to an inconspicuous area on your pup. After 24 hours, if your poodle has no reaction, it is probably safe to continue.

    • 3

Lay down your newspaper to protect the floor. If necessary, use a lead to keep your dog from walking away. Fill a large bowl with water and add about four drops of the color.

    • 4

Mix the color. If the color has not come out dark enough, add more food coloring. Never add more than one drop, as food coloring will change the shade of the water very drastically. When you have a hue you like, put on your gloves.

Use the sponge to apply the color to your pet. Continue applying the dye until you have finished the desired area.

Dry your poodle. Use a hair dryer or old towel that you don't mind getting stained to dry your dog.
