How to Clip a Husky

Siberian huskies, best known as sled race dogs, have thick under and outer coats, allowing them to withstand the cold arctic temperatures during the long winters in Alaska as well as other parts of the northern hemisphere. Although the Husky should never be completely shaved, a trimming along with regular grooming will help keep your Siberian Husky's coat healthy and beautiful. Professional groomers can be expensive, but you can easily learn to take care of your pet's coat at home. Dogs are always more relaxed and trusting of their owners, so home grooming can be less traumatic for the animal if done by the owner.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the portable grooming arm to the table. Place the dog on the table and attach the arm to your pet's collar. For safety, if you do not have a grooming arm you can ask a friend to help hold the dog.

    • 2

Use the coat-rake to brush the dog's coat backwards. Start at the neck and work back toward the tail.

    • 3

Holding the fur, lightly trim the hairs to even the coat.

    • 4

Comb down the fur to make sure the coat is even. Trim the fur on the belly.

    • 5

Back brush the fur on the foot with the slicker brush. Turn the dog's foot over and use the curved scissors to trim excess hair from the pads.

    • 6

Hold the tail and brush backward and trim the tail hairs. The tail hairs should be even in length.
