How to Groom Pomeranians in the Summer

Dogs with thick fur like a Pomeranian can be uncomfortable during the hot summer months. Trimming your dog for summer can make it feel a little cooler, but taking your dog to a professional groomer can put a fairly big dent in your pocket book. You can save some money by grooming your dog yourself. The only things that your need to buy is hair trimming scissors, flea shampoo, dog nail clippers and a couple of grooming brushes.

Instructions

Bathe your Pomeranian using a flea shampoo. Rinse the shampoo out of the fur completely to avoid itchiness. Comb through the dog's fur while it is still wet using a slicker brush. Use a metal comb for areas that are tangled and matted.

Trim your dog's nails using nail clippers specifically designed for dogs. Be careful not to hit the pink part of the nail.

    • 3

Blow dry your Pomeranian until its fur is damp but not soaking wet. Trim the excess fur on the paws using scissors.

    • 4

Talk to your dog throughout the grooming to reassure it and help it feel more comfortable. Take a section of fur from the upper back of the dog and pull it up gently between two of your fingers. Pull the metal comb through to make sure all the hairs are straight. Trim the fur until it is 1/2 inch in length. Continue trimming the entire body of the dog, starting at the top and working your way down.

Trim your Pomeranian's chest by starting at the top under its chin. Work your way down, trimming the hair to 1/2 inch. Do the same for the legs. Leave the hair around the face and tail about 1/4 inch longer.
