How to: Dog Bows

Dog bows may not be suitable for all dogs, such as rottweilers, pugs and other short-haired breeds, though they can look adorable on many long-haired toy breeds. Bow tying ranges from the simple to the ornate. Simpler bows are best to avoid a big fluffy mess on your pet's head. Bows that are too involved can also become annoying to your dog as they are heavier. Look for different patterns and colors and remember to place bows on your dog's head carefully to avoid pulled hair.

Instructions

    • 1

Make two even loops on each side of your chosen ribbon and cross the right loop over the left loop. Use ribbon that is about 1 1/2 inches wide.

    • 2

Create a knot by threading the right loop behind the left loop, then under and up through the hole. Pull the loops into a knot and adjust, as needed. The bow should be 2 to 2 1/2 inches long depending on the size of your dog. It is best to use more material than necessary and trim the ribbon as needed rather than cutting the ribbon too short initially.

Hot-glue the bow to a barrette or clip and allow to dry for five to 10 minutes. Place the bow in your dog's hair, as desired.
