Instructions
Chinaranian with Hair
Brush your Chinaranian daily or every other day to remove loose hair and to prevent matting. Brush from the roots to the ends. Lift the outer layer to get to the undercoat. Don't forget the leg and ear areas.
Trim the hair near the anus regularly. Use hair clippers or scissors for this. Take your time so you don't accidentally clip the skin. If you do, use styptic powder or a styptic stick to stop the bleeding. This is a quick and painless blood-stopping remedy used for cuts and nicks, especially on animals.
Give the dog a bath bi-weekly. Use a mild dog shampoo and warm water. Towel dry the dog afterward. Do not rub vigorously to dry the dog.
Clean the Chinaranian's ears when you notice some buildup. Use a cotton ball and some ear wash to clean the outer part of the ear. Never stick anything inside the inner ear.
Cut the dog's coat regularly. Use hair clippers and move from the back of the head down, going with the hair growth, not against it. Use a number 7 blade guard for the body and a number 10 for the face, leg and stomach areas. Take your time, as you do this to ensure an even cut and to avoid nicking the skin.
Trim the nails every 3 months with doggie nail clippers. Look at the bottom of the nail for a groove which runs from the tip back. Trim the nail only where the groove is deep and distinct. Avoid the areas that have wider and shallower grooves. That is where the blood vessels are. Stop any bleeding from nicks or cuts with the styptic powder or stick.
Use a doggie toothbrush and toothpaste to clean the dog's teeth every day or two. The dog may not like this but dental health is important.
Hairless Chinaranian
Use an SPF 15 sunscreen and moisturizer on the dog every day. This will help keep its sensitive skin protected and moisturized.
Use a soft bristled hairbrush to brush the skin of the dog. This will lightly exfoliate the skin, stimulate oil production and bring some blood flow to the area. Brush the small patches of hair that your dog does have with a pin style dog brush to prevent matting and knots. You should brush the hair and skin every other day.
Give your hairless Chinaranian a bath twice weekly. Use a moisturizing shampoo for this. Clean the ears, if needed, with a cotton ball and ear wash. Towel dry the dog.
Cut the hair the dog has with hair clippers and a number 10 blade guard, if you want. Many owners leave the hair the way it is.
Clip the nails once every 3 months. Look at the bottom of the nail for a groove which runs from the tip back. Trim the nail only where the groove is deep and distinct. Avoid the areas that have wider and shallower grooves. That is where the blood vessels are. If you accidentally nick the dog and there is bleeding, use styptic powder or a styptic stick to stop the bleeding immediately.
Brush your dog's teeth every 1 to 2 days. Use a doggie toothbrush and toothpaste. Although the dog will probably not like this very much, dental health is good for both humans and dogs.
