How to Clip a Pomeranian

Known for their fluffy coats and animated personalities, Pomeranians make loving and loyal companions to their owners. Many owners of this breed like to show off their dog's well-groomed coat. Poms come in different colors, including the popular red and orange variety. Many Pomeranian owners prefer to keep the dog's coat clipped rather than completely cut. The ideal look for a Pomeranian is one that is neat and contained, yet stylish. Regular trims at the dog groomers can be quite expensive. Fortunately, you can clip a Pomeranian at home with a few grooming tools.

Use a slicker brush to brush away any tangles or knots before you clip your Pomeranian's hair.

Clip the excess hair from the tops of the Pomeranian's ears with scissors. Hold the hair between two fingers to protect the dog from the scissors. Trim the hair at an angle. Cut the hair as short as you like.

    • 3

Brush the dog's hair forward on its head and trim it with scissors. Again, clip the hair at an angle. Use your middle and pointer fingers as a guide.

Clip the Pomeranian's coat with your scissors. Cut it as short as you would like, but keep the same length around the dog's head. Use your fingers as a guide to clipping the mane.

Clip the Pomeranian's hair on its front legs, back legs and chest. Start at the top of the dog's chest and work your way down. Pet your dog and rub its tummy to help calm it down before you start to trim its chest. Brush each leg before you start to clip the hair. Cut away any hair sticking out from the paws.

Twist the dog's tail hair between two fingers and clip the top off with scissors. Cut as much you like, but most owners keep their pom's tail hair long.
