How to Remove Skunk Fumes From a Pet

Your pet just found a skunk to play with in the backyard and now you have to get rid of the smell. Before you take your pet to the groomer's and add the stink to your car, there are a few household items you should try. All you need is some baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and a good-smelling liquid dish soap. The most difficult part in the process is getting your pet to sit still.

Instructions

    • 1

Change into a pair of old clothes that you don't mind throwing away. Put on the rubber gloves to keep the scent off your own skin.

    • 2

Wipe down your pet with the towel. Remove as much of the skunk's spray as possible. A skunk's spray is oily and repels water, so soaking up as much as possible with the towel will help get rid of the stench.

    • 3

Mix one quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1/4 cup of liquid dish soap in an open bucket.

    • 4

Rub the mixture onto your pet's fur and skin, avoiding the eyes and mouth. Leave the mixture on your pet for ten minutes.

    • 5

Rinse your pet with water until the water runs clear. Repeat the steps if needed.

    • 6

Dispose of the gloves, towel and clothes.
