How to Shave a Husky

The coat of a husky is quite thick, and many owners want to help their dogs cool down by shaving it in summer. This can be quite dangerous for the dog, however, as dogs release heat by panting, and by sweating through their paw pads and nose. Shaving a husky exposes their sensitive skin to the sun, and can lead to the development of skin cancer, and the top coat traps cool air next to their skin, keeping them cool. Proper grooming of your husky is important to keep it cool in the warm months, but shaving your husky is not the way to do it.

Instructions

    • 1

Brush your husky at least twice a week, more frequently during the seasons in which they shed their undercoats. This helps prevent tangles and clumps.

    • 2

Brush your dog with a special shedding blade during their shedding season at least once per day to help remove the fur that is being released. It may come out in clumps, but don't be alarmed, this is how it happens.

    • 3

Brush through a spray-on conditioner after removing the shed hair to keep the coat from tangling as it goes through the shedding process. Huskies are very clean dogs that don't need frequent bathing, but a conditioner will help keep the coat in top condition.
