How to Remove a Dog Clipper Blade

Grooming your dog with clippers can save you a lot of money on grooming. It is, however, very important to keep your clippers in good working order. Clippers full of hair can pull at your dog and possibly even cause a cut or other injury. An injured dog is an unhappy dog, so be sure your clippers are clean before you begin. Follow the instructions for your particular brand of clippers when removing the blade and use the cleaners and oil recommended by the manufacturer.

Instructions

    • 1

Read the instruction manual for the dog clippers. If you no longer have the clipper manual, try and download one from the manufacturer's website or call the manufacturer and ask for one.

    • 2

Wait until the blades cool down before attempting to remove them. Metal blades get very hot after use and can burn.

    • 3

Hold the clippers so the blade is face up with the teeth of the blade facing away from you.

    • 4

Look on your clippers for a blade release button or latch. This is usually at the base of the clipper blade where it attaches to the motor unit.

    • 5

Push the latch or button down, as indicated by the clipper. Sometimes there is an arrow or other symbol indicating which way to lift or push.

    • 6

Hold the button or latch in the open position as you gently pull the blade from the rest of the unit with your other hand. Lift the blade away from the motor unit and clean as needed.
