How to Make Goat's Milk Dog Shampoo Bars

Dogs with sensitive skin may not be able to tolerate shampoos sold in stores. These shampoos often contain chemicals that can irritate dog skin. Instead, you can make your own dog shampoo bar out of goat's milk. Goat's milk not only has moisturizing properties, but it also contains such vitamins as vitamin A. Make several bars of goat's milk dog shampoo at once to last you a few months at a time.

Things You'll Need

  • 20 oz. goat milk
  • Pot
  • 8 oz. lye
  • Food thermometer
  • 20 oz. extra virgin olive oil
  • 15 oz. coconut oil
  • 2 oz. Shea butter
  • 1 tsp. vitamin E
  • 1/4 cup finely ground oats
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 12 oz. lard

Instructions

    • 1

Pour 20 ounces of goat milk in a pot and place it in the freezer until it becomes slushy.

    • 2

Remove the pot and slowly add 8 ounces of lye. Stir continuously until the lye and goats milk have completely combined.

    • 3

Wait for the temperature in the pot to drop below 100 degrees (the lye will make it hotter than that). You will need a food thermometer to watch the temperature.

Add 20 ounces of extra virgin olive oil, 15 ounces coconut oil, 2 ounces of Shea butter, 1 teaspoon of vitamin E, 1/4 cup of finely ground oats, 1/4 cup of honey and 12 ounces of lard to the pot and stir until combined.
