How to Bathe Dogs With Baking Soda

If you don't want to go through the trouble of a full bath, you can clean your dog's fur with baking soda. You don't need water to activate the cleaning benefits of baking soda. The process will be less strenuous on your dog as well. You won't have to fight nearly as hard to make him remain calm through the process. You cut out a lot of the mess involved in cleaning him as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out a tarp or old sheet in the cleaning area. The hair and baking soda will fall onto the sheet instead of littering your floor.

    • 2

Tell your dog to stay still over the tarp. If he doesn't know the "stay" command, hook his leash around his neck and tether him to a pole.

    • 3

Sprinkle baking soda liberally over your dog's back, legs, head and stomach.

    • 4

Brush your dog's hair with a stiff pet brush. Use firm strokes that penetrate your dog's fur, but don't press so hard that you hurt your dog. Brush out all the baking soda until your dog's hair is free of baking soda.

Lightly run over your dog's hair with a lint-catching brush. It will help remove the excess hair on your dog so he sheds less.
