How to Dye Your Dog's Hair With Kool-Aid

A popular trend in dog grooming is dying your pooch's fur. Professional groomers use commercial dyes to achieve bright colors incorporating every shade of the rainbow, but charge a lot of money to do it. Instead of paying a fortune to the groomer, achieve a colored pooch using inexpensive packets of Kool-Aid. Dying your dog's fur requires little more than knowledge of proper steps and some Kool-Aid packets from your local grocery store.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up your workspace. Cover it with trash bags, a plastic tarp or old towels to prevent staining (Kool-Aid will dye countertops, floors and fabrics). You can also set your workspace up outdoors. Wear rubber gloves, old clothing and an apron while working with the Kool-Aid to prevent damage to your clothing and skin.

Prepare the Kool-Aid using one unsweetened packet. Place it in a large pitcher. The color of the drink mix determines the color your dog's fur will become. Pour in eight cups of water and stir with a spoon to dissolve the powder. Pour the mixture into a plastic spray bottle. For smaller dogs, dispense with the spray bottle and use instead a plugged sink.

    • 3

Place your dog on the covered workspace or in the sink. Cover the dog in the Kool-Aid mixture. For dogs on the workspace, mist the Kool-Aid on using the squirt bottle. Spray the dog's fur until it is saturated. If dying your dog in the sink, use a cup to pour the Kool-Aid over the top of your dog. Avoid pouring or spraying the liquid directly in your dog's eyes or over its nose.

Brush the Kool-Aid into your dog's fur or use your hands to massage it in. This helps it penetrate deeper into the hair.

Use old towels to rub your dog dry. Rub the fur vigorously to remove the moisture. Keep your dog from shaking until you complete this to avoid Kool-Aid from being sprayed around your home. Blow-dry your dog using a hairdryer or take her for a walk to air dry.
