How to Comb a Yorkie

Yorkshire Terriers, nicknamed "Yorkies," are a breed of toy terriers that have long blue and tan coats that require daily grooming sessions, It is a more frequent schedule than other long haired breeds because a Yorkie's fur grows long from the base of its skull down the legth of the body to the tail. Combing your Yorkie's fur keeps it from tangling and matting, as well as removing dirt and distributing natural conditioning oils that give the Yorkie's fur a smooth shine.

Place your Yorkie on a comfortable flat surface, such as a tabletop covered with an old, clean towel. Grip her gently, but firmly, at the hips or shoulders as you comb.

    • 2

Comb through your Yorkie's fur, gently, using the wide toothed comb to remove tangles. To work out knots, grasp the tuft of fur near the dog's skin to keep from pulling, as you work out the comb using short strokes. Use the scissors to clip out snarls, but only as a last resort, if combing does not work.
