How to Take out Tangles in a Bichon Frise

Despite its small size, the bichon frise is a very smart and loving dog. They are often used as show dogs, due to their stylish hair and elegant facial features. Yet their curly hair is easily tangled, and they must be carefully groomed on a regular basis. If left unattended, a bichon´s coat can become coarse and ultimately cause skin problems, since big knots are the perfect environment for ticks and fleas. Caring for your bichon´s hair will not only help prevent health issues, but also keep its coat shiny and soft.

Instructions

    • 1

Take out a dog treat and lead your bichon frise to the nearest bathroom. Next, place it in the tub and give it another treat. This will make your dog feel safe and help avoid uncomfortable behavior.

    • 2

Soak your dog with lukewarm water and pour a small amount of dog shampoo over the body. Thoroughly massage its entire body.

    • 3

Rinse with water until shampoo is completely gone. Apply dog conditioner and use the end part of the brush to separate any knots of hair. This will make the untangling easier and less painful for your bichon.

    • 4

Take your bichon to a quiet area and place the towel on the floor beneath it. Let it shake off any excess water and proceed to dry with a towel. Next, start blow-drying your dog´s hair.

    • 5

Wait until hair is completely dry. Grab each section from its roots and start combing carefully. By doing this, you will avoid accidentally pulling out your bichon´s hair.

    • 6

Run your fingers through your bichon´s coat to remove any remaining tangles.
