How to Demat a Yorkie

Yorkshires are small and playful dogs that make great apartment pets. They don't require large amounts of space, they love to play, and most importantly, they shed almost no hair. However, among other delicate features, a Yorkie´s hair must be cared for regularly. This breed´s hair is long and thin, and very easy to break if not groomed properly. Once your Yorkie has matted hair, shaving it off completely maybe the only solution. This, however, can be avoided by correctly dematting your dog a couple of times a week.

Run the tap in your bathroom or kitchen sink. Test the water until warm.

Place the Yorkie in the sink and rinse it with water. Turn off the water tap. Using a small amount of shampoo, wash the dog from the neck to its hind end.

Remove the shampoo carefully and add the conditioner.

    • 4

Start untangling the Yorkie´s hair with your fingers.

    • 5

Brush the hair gently, starting from the roots and moving slowly towards the ends. This will help eliminate remaining knots.

    • 6

Rinse off the conditioner and wrap the Yorkie with a soft towel. Dry the hair as much as possible.

Use a hair dryer at low heat to dry off any excess water. Gently comb the Yorkie´s hair. Its coat will look healthy and shiny.
