Oster A5 Directions

The Oster A5 clippers are professional-grade clippers for dogs, but Oster makes the clippers available to pet owners, too. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, pet owners spend between $250 and $400 a year to groom the dog. Purchasing and caring for a pair of quality clippers allows pet owners to groom at home and pocket the savings.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the three-pronged electrical plug into the outlet. The clippers are designed to work on a 120-volt household power circuit. Use an adapter to limit the power to the appliance.

    • 2

Remove the blade guard from the clipper.

    • 3

Place two drops of the lubricating oil on the blades. Wipe the excess off the blades with a rag.

    • 4

Turn on the clippers. The A5 single speed clippers have a button on the side of the clippers. The A5 dual speed clippers has a sliding bar on the side of the clippers.

    • 5

Adjust the thumb lever next to the blades. Press the lever towards the letter A for a fine cut, and the letter B for a coarse cut. The A5 is complete with permanently attached blades. The A5 deluxe model comes with blades attached but allows you to change cutting blades. A lever on the underside of the clippers near the blades releases the current blades. Press the new blades into their place.

    • 6

Clip the pet. Place the plastic cutting guard against the animal's skin. Beneath the clipper blades there is a plastic guard that raises the metal blades from the dog's skin. Move the clipper in the direction the fur grows.

    • 7

      Unplug the clippers.

    • 8

Brush the tiny snippets of fur from between the metal blades with the small clipping brush provided. If the clipping brush isn't handy, use a toothbrush to thoroughly clean the hair from between the blades.

    • 9

Spread one or two drops of lubricating oil over the blades before replacing the blade guard and storing.
