How to Get Knots Out of a Poodle's Hair

Poodles are susceptible to knots because of their curly fur. When the dog does not receive a daily grooming, the fur can begin to form into knots, which can look unpleasant and irritate the dog̵7;s skin. You need to remove the knots carefully so you don't accidentally harm the poodle. The same methods used for removing knotted hair on other pets will also work on poodles. Once you have eliminated the knots, brush the poodle daily to prevent them from returning.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray the poodle̵7;s matted hair with a detangling product. Purchase a detangling product designed for dogs at your local pet supply store. Saturate the area with the spray.

    • 2

Massage the spray into the matted hair with your fingers. Work the spray deep into the matted hair to make it easier to eliminate the knots.

    • 3

Pick apart the mats and knots with your fingers or a comb, carefully. Work in small sections to remove the clumps. Start from the top and work your way down to the skin.

    • 4

Brush the poodle̵7;s fur in small sections. Continue to break the knots and mats into smaller sections until you remove them completely.

    • 5

Remove difficult knots with scissors or shears. Cut through the knot by pushing the scissor blade through it and try separating the remains into small sections. Always place the sharp part of the blade away from the skin.
