How to Cut a Beard on a Schnauzer Mix

Schnauzer's have a distinctive head. Some schnauzer mixes, such as terrier/schnauzer mixes may or may not have the distinctive long hair around the eyes and beard that makes the schnauzer stand out. Other mixes, such as the schnoodle, a schnauzer/poodle mix, have thick, curly beards that can mat and require clipping. Other issues may also arise that force beard clipping. The dog may explore chewing gum or other gooey substances. Light-colored dogs may stain their beards with dog food or treats.

Instructions

    • 1

      Comb the dog's beard forward.

    • 2

Hold the scissors parallel to the side of the dogs head with the points toward the end of the beard. Trim any stray hairs that detract from the square look of the dog's face.

    • 3

Trim the bottom of the beard straight across. But don't trim more than 1/4-inch. Some groomers prefer to leave the bottom of the beard natural.

    • 4

Thin the fur under the dog's chin if necessary with the thinning shears.
