How to Get Rid of Knots Behind the Ears With Dog Grooming

To a dog, grooming means a good head-to-tail shake after coming out of water or after a roll in dirt. You therefore must maintain your dog if you want him to remain happy and healthy. Knots behind the ears are particularly annoying and potentially painful grooming concern for dogs with medium and long coats. The hairs become tangled and clump together. You can use a special grooming tool to remove these from your dog's coat.

Instructions

    • 1

Separate the knot from the normal hairs behind your dog's ear. Pinch the knot at its base as close to the dog's body as possible.

    • 2

Run the dematter's blades through the knot. You will feel it catch and resist. Gently pull the tool through the knot.

    • 3

Pull the knot free. The dematter will sever smaller knots from your dog's body. Larger knots may not come loose but will instead break apart. Use your normal comb to brush out and straighten these hairs.
