How to Wipe Down a Dog Who Rolled in Poo

Dogs roll around in feces to mark themselves with the scent of their territory. Sometimes dogs simply enjoy the smell of the feces, which is hard for people to grasp. Since a human's sense of smell pales in comparison to a dog's sense of smell, we may never know what coerces man's best friend to roll around in feces. Simply wiping the dog down after this is not enough; you must wash him.

Place the dog in a tub or shower. If the dog is not cooperating, you may need a partner to help you hold him.

    • 2

Calm the dog down by petting him, taking care to avoid the feces so as not to further rub it into the dog's coat.

Test the water to ensure it is warm and begin gently cleansing the dog. Clean as much of the feces off with the water, then apply dog shampoo to the soiled area. Massage the area gently in a circular motion, taking care to remove all the feces. Rinse and repeat until all the feces is gone.

Allow the dog to shake himself off. Then take a soft towel and wipe him down, ensuring all the wet spots are carefully attended to. Let the dog relax but make sure he does not go back and roll in the feces again.
