How to Fluff Your Pomeranian

The Pomeranian is a breed known for its fluffy coat. Keeping the dog's hair clean enables it to grow well, whereas dirty hair breaks and is prone to matting and tangling. Regular brushing prevents the hair from matting. Once this occurs, it may require a clipping to remove the tangles, thus reducing the fluffy coat. Keeping your Pomeranian's coat and body healthy is the best way to keep your little puffball looking attractive.

Instructions

    • 1

Bathe your Pomeranian every week if it is a show dog. If not, then shampoo every two weeks during warm weather and every four to six weeks during winter. Using a low-sudsing shampoo formulated for dogs is best since Pomeranians tend to have coarse textured coats.

    • 2

Dry the dog's coat by using a towel to absorb as much excess moisture as possible. Use a blow dryer set on low heat and a slicker brush to remove any remaining moisture. Brush the hair toward the dog's face while drying to give it lift and a fluffy appearance.

    • 3

Mix 1 oz. of dog conditioner with 8 oz. of rain or distilled water in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture onto the coat to dampen it before brushing during the week when you are not bathing your dog.

    • 4

Brush the Pomeranian's damp coat two or three times a week, or more often if necessary. Use a pin or bristle brush. Start at the skin and brush the fur in an outward, gentle motion toward the face. Pay careful attention to the groin area and around the ears. These areas tend to mat quickly.
