How to Groom Dogs With Thick Tangles

Dog grooming can be tricky, and the techniques you use will greatly depend on the breed of dog you have. For example, dog breeds that have long coats are going to be much more susceptible to issues like tangled fur. If you allow the fur to get too tangled, you may end up needing help from a professional dog groomer. However, if you stay on top of this issue and groom your dog regularly, you should not have an issue.

Choose a time to groom when your dog is relaxed, such as the period of time after a walk when the dog is in a calm mood.

    • 2

Move through the fur and tangles with a slicker brush. Start at the base of the fur and move upward with a slow motion. Gently work the brush through the fur to remove the tangle. Try not to pull too much.

    • 3

Go through the fur with a bristle brush once you have removed the majority of the tangle. This will ensure that any hair that has come out will get removed.

Keep each grooming session under 10 minutes. If all of the tangles have not been removed in that time, you may want to try again later in the day when your dog has settled down.
