How to Shave a Dog's Hair

Dog grooming can be an expensive service. Some dog groomers charge extra money if the dog presents any problems during the grooming session, such as poor behavior. If your dog needs to be groomed regularly, it might be better to learn grooming techniques on your own. Shaving a dog's hair is not a terribly difficult task when the instructions are followed properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the dog on top of a table. Attach a leash to the dog's collar. Hold the leash tight, but give the dog enough slack to move its head.

    • 2

Begin shaving the dog's face while holding the leash steady. Be careful shaving around the dog's eyes and mouth. Leave about an inch in between the area you are shaving and the dog's eyes and mouth to help prevent an accident.

    • 3

Start shaving the dog's legs and tail next. Move the clippers gently up the fur while shaving.

    • 4

Switch the clipper blade to one made for longer hair. Finish shaving the rest of the dog's body in an upward motion.
