How to Change the Blade on My Oster Animal Clippers

Oster makes two varieties of animal clippers: those with adjustable blades, and those with a detachable blade. Over time, the blades of the animal clippers will become dull and require replacement. Owners can easily replace the blades of either type of Oster animal clipper without any special equipment. The replacement blades are available from the manufacturer.

Instructions

  1. Detachable Blades

    • 1

Turn off the clippers. Hold them so the blade faces you.

    • 2

Push the blade locking latch located under the blade. Slide the old blade off the clipper head.

    • 3

Turn the clipper motor on. Slide the new blade over the blade head. Press down on the end, to snap it into place.

    Adjustable Clipper Blades

    • 4

Unplug the clippers. Lay them on a flat surface, upside down. Use a Philip's head screwdriver to remove the two screws located at the bottom of the blade. Set the screws aside.

    • 5

Remove the bottom blade. Push the adjustment lever down and pull out the top blade.

    • 6

Keep the adjustment lever pushed down. Place a new top blade over the mounting head of the clippers.

    • 7

Position the bottom blade, so the holes in the blade line up over the screw holes on the clippers. Replace the screws, but do not tighten them completely.

    • 8

Adjust the top blade so it sits 1/32 inch from the edge of the bottom blade. Both blades must also be even on each side, and the edges must be parallel. Tighten the screws.
