How to Shave a Pomeranian

If you have a miniature Pomeranian, you may discover that your dog's hair becomes tangled and matted if allowed to grow too long. Additionally, in the heat of summer a long coat of hair will be uncomfortable for your pet. The solution is to keep your dog well groomed, but professional groomers can be prohibitively expensive. Fortunately, you can purchase professional electric dog clippers and groom your dog at home. A well groomed pet is a happy pet.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your dog on a table or another waist-high surface.

    • 2

Put the #7 comb on your clippers; this is a relatively long comb and is best for trimming long-haired dogs.

    • 3

Shave your animal beginning at the back of its neck, moving in a downwards motion from head to tail. This motion mimics petting and should be soothing to your dog. Shave its entire back in this manner.

    • 4

Shave carefully down your pet's rump and the back of its legs, using the same downward motion you used on its back. Make sure to hold its tail out of the way during this part of the process. Once your dog's rump is shaved you can carefully shave the tail.

    • 5

Shave the sides of your dog starting at its hind quarters. Move from the top of your dog's back down towards its belly, so you are maintaining a petting motion.

    • 6

Have your dog sit so you can shave its belly from the front, moving from the neck down.

    • 7

Get your partner to gently hold your dog in a normal standing position; this is mainly to stabilize the animal and minimize any movements. Finish shaving your pet's front legs. Next, have your partner lift your animal's rear legs up so you have clear access to the rest of its belly, and shave the remaining hair on the dog's underside.

Trim around your dog's face with scissors, and then use the scissors to make your dog's coat nice and even.
