How to Groom a Toy Poodle With Scissors

Most toy poodle cuts require the use of clippers to achieve the desired effect. The clippers shave the hair and form the curled effect that most poodle-owners use. The hair styles of poodles are one of the most recognizable features of these canine breeds. Cut around the face and eyes with the scissors, where clippers cannot go. Maintenance is also key. Use scissors to tidy up a previously groomed poodle, or to trim the hair around the face between grooming visits and enable your dog to see clearly.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray the hair around your dog's face with the spray bottle. Hair is easier to cut when wet.

    • 2

Comb through the hair to remove any tangles and prepare the hair for cutting.

    • 3

Cut the hair at the top of the dog's head close to the head. You can also leave it long and tie a bow or hair elastic around the top to make a ponytail for the dog.

    • 4

Trim extra hair around the ears. Trim under the chin and neck around the muzzle of the dog.

    • 5

Trim any excess hair around the dogs head and cheeks. Carefully cut the hair around the dog's eyes. If your dog resists this part of the procedure at all, then don't do it. You do not want to risk harming your dog's eyes, even if the scissors are blunted.

    • 6

Trim any undesired hair hanging from your dog's stomach and body. Trim around the legs and feet. Pick up the feet and trim any hairs growing outside of the desired shape, which is typically a ball-like shape.

    • 7

Trim any excess hairs from the tail. Poodle owners often prefer the dog to have a mostly bald tail, with one tuft of curly hair at the end.
