Things You'll Need
- Metal comb for dogs
- Dog brush
- Dog shampoo
- No-tangle leave-in lotion
- Hair pick comb
- Blow dryer
Instructions
Use a metal comb to remove tangles. By removing tangles, you prevent them from turning in mats, which can irritate the dog's skin.
Brush the Yorkie every day. The brushing removes dirt, grime and loose hair. Brushing can also be relaxing to the dog. In addition, it stimulates the oil glands on the skin to produce natural oils that lubricate the fur and keep it shiny.
Bathe the dog once or twice a month with a dog shampoo. Shampoos designed for humans are too drying for the Yorkie. After placing the dog in a tub or large sink, wet it completely with warm water before applying the shampoo. Don't rub the shampoo into the hair, because this only causes tangles. Rinse out all of the shampoo.
Apply a leave-in no-tangle lotion formulated for dogs. Comb through the wet hair with a plastic pick comb, advises the Yorkie Lane website. The pick comb removes all tangles without scratching the Yorkie's skin.
Blow dry the Yorkie's hair on a low or medium setting. Direct the air in the direction the hair grows. Leave the hair a little damp; this prevent drying out the fur.
