How to Bathe a Doberman

Taking your dog to the groomer can become quite costly over time, so some owners choose to groom their dogs at home. It's especially easy to groom your Doberman Pinscher at home; they have short coats that don't need to be cut. With a little time and effort, your Doberman can be as clean as if it just came from the dog groomer.

Instructions

Lift your Doberman into the bathtub and wet its coat from the neck down with warm water. A detachable shower head makes this much easier, but you can also fill a large cup with warm water and gently pour it over the dog's coat. Avoid getting water in its eyes or ears, and don't use hot or cold water; hot water can scald, and cold water may cause your Doberman to catch a chill.

Lather your Doberman's coat with a dog shampoo formulated for its specific needs (i.e. sensitive skin, flea and tick, puppy, etc.). Apply a line of shampoo from the base of your Doberman's neck to the base of its tail, and rub the shampoo into its coat. You might need to pour a little shampoo onto your hands to lather its belly, legs and tail. A rubber curry brush or grooming mitt can help loosen dirt and hair.

Rinse your Doberman's coat with warm water, using either a detachable shower head or a cup. Fill the container with clean water from the spigot, not dirty water from the bottom of the bathtub. Rinse its coat thoroughly until there are no more suds; shampoo residue can cause irritation once the coat dries, and can lead to hot spots.

Run your hands down your Doberman's sides and back to squeeze some of the remaining water from its coat, then lift your Doberman out of the tub and towel it dry. Your Doberman will probably be happy to help dry itself by shaking off most of the water.
