Things You'll Need
- Dog shampoo
- Dog conditioner
- Brush or comb
- Barber scissors
- Thinning scissors
Instructions
Wash and comb your schnauzer so that its coat is free of mats and tangles. The long hairs of a schnauzer's beard can trap food particles, so washing your dog will make the trimming process easier.
Comb the beard forward and trim it with barber scissors in a line straight down from the widest part of the skull. Be sure to hold the scissors parallel to the side of the dog's head and avoid angling them inward. Angling the scissors may result in a triangular look instead of the traditional boxy shape.
Blend the hair where the cheeks and beard meet with thinning scissors and trim away straggly hairs. Step back and check that the beard is even all the way around your dog's muzzle.
