How to Groom a Pomeranian Dog

Pomeranian dogs are among the most beautiful dogs, known to frequently inhabit handbags on the Upper East Side and prized for their companionship worldwide. If you have such a dog, be sure to care for it properly, and groom it to the best of your ability. Pomeranians are extremely fluffy, so be sure to keep their coats neat through proper bathing and upkeep.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your Pomeranian, without getting water or soap in its eyes, ears, or nose. If necessary, use cotton balls to clean hard-to-reach places, such as the ears, without inundating them with water.

    • 2

Towel-dry your Pomeranian, then blow-dry its hair, using care to use a low-heat setting and hold the dryer away from his body to avoid overheating the dog or drying its skin.

    • 3

Trim the dog's ears. Pinch the leather of his ears to avoid cutting the actual ears. The scissors should be held at a slightly tilted angle, parallel to the dog's eyes.

    • 4

Trim the hair around the Pomeranian's head so that the head takes on a circular shape. Avoid acting overly anxious or excited, as that will agitate the dog and make it more difficult to groom.

    • 5

Brush the Pomeranian's chest hair while the dog is sitting, and cut his hair in a slight angle pointing towards the knee.

    • 6

Turn the dog sideways, and cut the hair under the belly so that it forms a semicircle.

    • 7

Trim the hair around the base of the Pomeranian's tail to give it a nice shape. Hold the tip of the tail hair straight, and cut it at an aesthetically pleasing length and angle.

    • 8

Trim the foot hair, so that you can see the shape of your dog's feet, and clip the nails with dog nail clippers. Be sure not to cut into the quick (past the visible vein underneath the nails), as this will cause bleeding and pain to your dog and will cause it to fight your grooming efforts.
