Things You'll Need
- Dog brush and comb
- Dog shampoo
- Scissors
- Slicker brush
- Dog toothbrush and toothpaste
Instructions
Brush your bichon thoroughly but carefully, removing all knots and matted hair. This works best if you have your bichon lie on its side. If you come across a mat, hold the mat at its base near the dog's skin. Begin working out the mat at the end of the hair, not at the base. This will allow you to slowly separate the mat without tugging at your bichon's skin.
Comb your bichon carefully. This will remove even the smallest of knots.
Bathe your bichon, thoroughly washing all areas of the coat with dog shampoo. Rinse out carefully, making certain all the shampoo is washed out.
Brush your bichon with a slicker brush while its coat is drying. This will help prevents new knots and mats from forming. You can use a dryer to speed along the drying process and to make the coat fluffy; just make sure the dryer is set on a cooler setting.
Trim any excess hair growing between the pads of your bichon's feet with the scissors. Be careful to not cut the pads of the foot.
Brush your bichon's teeth with the dog toothbrush and toothpaste formulated for dogs. Pay special attention to the gum.
