How to Trim a Bulldog's Whiskers

Bulldogs have flat faces with rows of whiskers that grow on their wrinkles. They also have jutting whiskers on their chins. Most bulldog owners don't bother to trim the dog's whiskers, since they are not easily visible. However, if you are showing your bulldog, it's a good idea to give its whiskers a quick trim before entering the ring. This method works for both bulldogs and French bulldogs, as well as other flat-faced dog breeds such as the pug or Boston terrier.

Instructions

Grasp the dog by the base of the jaw or dewlaps to hold the head still. Don't pinch too hard, or hold the dog's head up so high that it is uncomfortable for the dog. You just want the dog to hold still for a minute.

    • 2

Lay the scissors flat so that the surface of the blades is parallel to the dog's face. Hold the scissors a fraction of an inch over the dog's skin, so you don't pinch the dog by accident.

    • 3

Trim off any jutting whiskers on the face or chin.

    • 4

Feel the dog's face with your hand by running your fingers over the surface of the skin. The whiskers are stiffer than the normal hairs, so you'll easily be able to feel if you missed any.
